Written Testimony- Written testimony can be submitted as an individual or as an organization to be entered into the public record on a given issue

Research: Research and find written submission guidelines.
Organize: Structure your comment with an introduction, summary of position, supporting arguments, and conclusion..
Prepare: Proofread and revise your comment with organization members
Submit: Submit the comment by the deadline

By providing well-researched and thoughtful recommendations, your association can influence local policies to better serve your community. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to provide recommendations effectively:

Gather data on your neighborhood
Gather data and insight from community members through surveys, meetings, and discussions
Engage your organization for feedback and consensus
Write a formal policy recommendation document that includes an executive summary, background information, detailed recommendations, and supporting evidence.
Present the recommendations effectively at NPU meetings
Follow up and keep the community informed

Key Items

The Atlanta City Council consists of 16 members: 12 are elected from single-member districts and 3 are elected citywide. The President of the City Council is also elected citywide. Moreover, City Council meetings are open to the public and are an excellent opportunity to stay informed and involved. Meetings are typically held on the first and third Mondays of each month. By attending and participating in meetings, scheduling meetings with council members and building relationships, your neighborhood organization can successfully engage with city council

Schedule and conduct meetings with council members.
Establish ongoing relationships with council members and their staff.
Participate in relevant City Council committees.

Atlanta's Boards, Authorities, Commissions, Etc (BACE) play a crucial role in shaping the policies and initiatives that impact our city. These bodies offer residents the opportunity to influence decisions on a wide range of issues, from zoning and transportation to arts and education. By participating in BACE, citizens and neighborhood organizations can ensure that their voices are heard and their communities' needs are addressed. Each BACE may have specific eligibility criteria, such as residency requirements or professional expertise. Review that specific BACE’s requirements to ensure you qualify.
