Urban Plan Academy for Community Leaders is a one-day course offered in partnership with the Urban Land Institute of Atlanta. The course is designed to help neighborhood leaders navigate the complexities of advocating for community priorities when presented with development plans. With a focus on the trade-offs and risks involved in the entitlement and negotiation process and related to land use, the course enhances the student's understanding of the fundamental forces that affect development. Through a project-based approach, students will engage in a scenario involving a city-led redevelopment effort -- honing their negotiation skills with the fictional city's elected officials, neighborhood, the development team, and the community.

Who Should Apply?

 

We are curating a cohort of 25 participants who are 18 years of age or older and have a connection to the City of Atlanta as a resident, property owner, business owner, or City of Atlanta employee.

Ideal participants are actively engaged in their communities, interested in learning more about how Atlanta grows and develops, and able to attend the workshop in its entirety.

​* You do not need prior experience in urban planning to apply. We welcome participants from a wide range of professional, educational, and lived backgrounds who are interested in learning more about community development, civic engagement, and the future of Atlanta’s neighborhoods.
